Another major layoff announcement in Calhoun county. This time in piedmont, with Garcy, the cities second largest manufacturing facility announcing to employees Friday that they will be closing their manufacturing operations in piedmont due to a consolidation of similar operations within the company. The shutdown will put 117 employees out of work. Garcy, a division of Leggett and Platt, manufactured retail store fixtures. Piedmont Mayor Brian Young said they are working hard to bring another replacement industry into piedmont. The first of the layoffs are expected in late March with the remainder coming by the end of June. Employees will receive at least sixty days pay and benefits from the date they received formal notice of the plant closure. The company is also working the employee union in making sure employes get assistance with job placement opportunities.
